Well on my way

Today's run felt a little better, but I really need to get up before say, 10am and out the door for my runs. It felt toasty!

Mostly I just tried to keep it slow and comfortable to get the miles in

Afterwards, Tatum and I went on a 1.75 mile walk which was a good way to walk off some soreness I had. I also stretched alot too.

Yesterday evening I met Z for dinner after work and my in-laws joined us. I am a huge nerd and the main reason why I love going out to eat these days is because it is an excuse to find a cute outfit in my closet and do my hair and make-up :) Lately I haven't been doing much besides working out and studying, so any excuse to leave the house and look nice is welcomed!

My MIL brought my Pampered Chef order with her to dinner last night. I got a couple pieces of stoneware and this baby

We had one of these in my house growing up, and when I moved out on my own I tried to buy a couple different cheaper versions. No bueno! They were nowhere near as sharp or nice and I'd end up pitching them. With as much cooking as I do, I'm excited to have my own and am going to celebrate by whipping up a huge batch of fresh guacamole for tonight's dinner.

An ice cold beer (or three) mighhhht be involved as well. I know it doesn't fall into my "Whole Foods" challenge, but whatyagonnado ;)

I have already lost 3 pounds, so I'll be cheers-ing to that!

Total Diet Makeover

This past weekend I ran the Hospital Hill 10k, which courses through parts of downtown KC. Despite not training for it, I not only met my goal- I exceeded it!

It was my first 10k, and a very difficult course, and I finished in under an hour, with my fastest mile split coming at mile 5 and being 8:48. What!? I couldn't be more proud of myself, Zach, or my good friend who also ran that day.

The morning was beautiful, the race was well organized and started on time, and afterwards it was fun walking around -enjoying the fountains and the vendors that were set up giving out free goodies.

I only wish I had taken some pictures. I didn't bring my camera, and the camera on my phone? Sucks. (Speaking of my phone, I debated what I would do with it during the race, but ended up running with it in my hand. Honestly it didn't bother me as much as I thought it might)

The only pictures taken that day:

Afterwards- in my race shirt, flip flops, bib, and metal :)

Yep, I made him pose too :)
The whole race experience was great and left us both wanting more. We are considering signing up for a half marathon soon - just waiting to pick the perfect one for our first. We've been reading up on local races and race reviews. More on that to come!

With all the running I've been doing lately you'd think that I would have lost weight...you'd be wrong. Maintained weight? Nope. I've gained 3 pounds. WTH!

I know when you exercise you build muscle. I'm no stranger to exercise. I played volleyball and basketball throughout school, I was on my high school swim team for 3 years, and I also ran cross country for a couple seasons in high school. My problem has always been this:

--I'm not hungry right after I workout so I don't eat. An hour or so later I'm starving! After I eat something, I am usually insatiable for the rest of the day. I eat like a crazy person! Yesterday was no exception and I woke up feeling crappy and unhappy with myself.

So, I'm doing something about it! I'm starting a one week whole food challenge today.

Whole Food Challenge: eat only whole foods for one week (Sounds simple, right?)

To be continued... !!

Dear {hypothetical} reader,

Do you remember when I said I was going to get better at blogging consistently? Me too. Only it hasn't happened yet. I blame school. Seriously, when you have to write blog posts about your clinical day on Blackboard, followed by peer reviewed journal article reviews, followed by care plans, followed by Community Health papers you kind of lose the desire to write FOR FUN. More like, you want to drown your sorrows in an entire bottle a little bit of Reisling (with frozen berries instead of ice cubes to chill and add flavor- yum!) and watch CW shows like Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie on HULU when you get home. Seriously.

Not my pic. But my wine glasses look EXACTLY like this. Who needs fancy little wine glasses? :-)

Plus I have serious doubts about my blogging ability. I read some pretty interesting, creative, and CUTE blogs. Look at mine. No bueno. It's not that I doubt my writing ability; I KNOW I'm a good writer. It's just that the blogging world seems intimidating to someone just starting out. What if I'm...boring? Or...unoriginal? What if no one likes what I have to offer?

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment. But if you stick with me I promise to do better. I promise to get better at organizing my life

This is what my poor little CVS planner contained for October - & this is only the stuff I remembered to write down in it!

I WILL write more tomorrow!
Goodnight:-)

Brrrr!!!

It got down to freezing last night- I woke up at 2am to go to the bathroom and was SO COLD I woke up Zach to tell him to go turn on the heat :) It was 56 degrees in our house! BRRR!!! Fall, I'm not ready for you to leave yet!

Anyways, I pinky swore to myself that I would become more consistent with this blog and the promise is still on...

Life has just been super duper bizzay! Swimming, soccer game, and family get together on Saturday; 6 mile run, grocery shopping and tons of homework and studying on Sunday; clinical most of the day Monday; class most of the day on Tuesday and clinical most of the day today. Blah!

The soccer game on Saturday was sooo rowdy and the crowd was super into it. We literally stood on our feet the whole game. And we won! #1 in the MLS, baby!
Z and I - the guy taking our picture told us we could be toothpaste models. Uh? Thanks! :D

They turned on the sprinklers at halftime when the other team was out kicking the ball around HA!

Sporting KC Stadium

Thank God  I have tomorrow off. I plan to get a good run in, do lots of studying, and to make a ginormous pot of this :

Served with a side of these!

YUM! :)

Real Life ER

I was nervous about my first Emergency Department rotation today. I didn't really know what I'd be seeing or what situations I would be in. I envisioned myself in the trauma room with a patient coding on the table and physicians teeming in and out of the room while I gloved up and jumped in for chest compressions.

HAH!

The day was mostly boring. My nurse and I had three patients - one was an elderly woman who had fallen and had a few skin tears and a bump on the head and the other two were chest pain patients. We gave O2, nitro, aspirin, and ran labs.

No traumas. No gunshot wounds. No ferry boat accidents  (&no McDreamy either! ha)  Nope. Lots of standing around awkwardly waiting for someone to give me something to do.

I did start two IV's and gave a couple of meds though. And everyone was very nice and helpful - so I can't complain too much about my day

Done with my shift - sooo ready for the weekend.

First up: a hot shower and a bottle glass of this yumminess

Mmmmmmm :)
